I'm pretty sure that the phone chain has passed most of this on, but a friend in our ward said they use their Blog as a journal, and that sounded like a good idea to me!
Alex had some nasty flu-ish symptoms on Thursday... all day. The poor kid couldn't keep ANY thing in him. After about 12 hours, he shifted into acute pain and freaked us out about a possible appendicitis. I called Chris home from his Search and Rescue meeting, and then called Oliver (our friend/ Elder's Quorum President/ chiropractor. Chris got here first and was so alarmed he just put him in the truck and went to the E.R. before Oliver ever got here. I got to stay home and phone around for a sitter for the other kids. My worst nightmare: no WAY to leave Jeff and Hannah home alone together. I shudder still at the thought. Candace to the rescue!! She really is the best baby sitter ever. (At the last minute, on a school night, and no charge because of the reason. Love you Candace!)
On to the E.R.: By the time I got there, they were ordering Demerol for the pain, and a CT for a diagnosis. Looked like almost-but-not-quite classic appendicitis. Tenderness was in the center of his gut, instead of the side. When the Demerol hit.... well... the kid was loopy. And really funny. After some strange random comments, he finally asked which part of the hospital he was in. (Didn't occur to me that as many times as we've been there with Jeff, Alex has never been to the emergency room.) So we told him "welcome to the expensive part." Ha ha.The CT showed gastritis with a minor, partial(non-surgical) bowel obstruction, not appendicitis...whew! Easily treatable at home, no surgery.
72 hours later, and he was working on the homework he missed, and planning on returning to school tomorrow. I think he'll be fine. Thank you all for your prayers in his behalf. I know that helped a lot!
